Josie on Shadowridge Drive FAQ's
, their cat, Frito and two birds.
I hold a special place in my heart for all of them, especially my Josie. Every year at the end of June when the luggage rolls out to be packed, my heart sinks and so does Josie’s.
I thought that this would make a great book for children, expressing the feeling of having to leave someone or something you love behind, whether it be only temporary, or even permanent.
- What is the message in this story that you want your readers to come away with?
Great question! Really, I think that if each one of us really treasures the time when we are with those special loves in our lives, we will always have them in our hearts. We should realize that our time doesn’t go on forever, as much as we would like it to.
- Do you still see Josie and how is your relationship today?
Yes, I am still traveling to the west coast every June and our love is even stronger. Of course, we are both older now, as well. I think it gives me some peace, just knowing that Josie has a book about herself and that our love story will live on forever—for many to enjoy. JOSIE on SHADOWRIDGE DRIVE will always have a special place in my heart.
- Following JOSIE on SHADOWRIDGE DRIVE, what are you writing now?
Currently, CORKY’S TRAVELS, my first cat book, is being illustrated by two-time,FAPA Silver Medal Illustrator, Matt Lumsden in Boca Raton, Florida. It is the story about a beautiful, black cat who Jim has had for nearly two decades. One day, Corky doesn’t come home and Jim is heartbroken.
I wrote this tale with a positive ending for children. It is a story of hope and knowing that just maybe, Corky is still out exploring new things. Life doesn’t always have to turn out bad because something changes. I think it’s all about “attitude.”
